The Telangana Jagruti activists stalled the screening of Junior NTR’s film Adhurs at several parts of the region on Wednesday.
Telangana Jagruti, a cultural arm of the TRS, is headed by K. Kavita, the daughter of the TRS chief, Mr K. Chandrasekhara Rao.
However, despite the threats, the movie got rousing response on the opening day at some theaters in the city. The screening of the film was stalled for some time at Brahmaramba theater at Kukatpally as an anonymous caller made a hoax bomb call. Bomb squad however did not find any bomb.
The screening was stalled at Cine Planet, Kompally. TRS activists staged dharna in front of Odeon theater at RTC Crossroads due to which traffic was disrupted for some time.
Elsewhere in Telangana, protesters tried to attack theaters in Karimnagar, Adilabad, Nalgonda, Medak and Mahbubnagar. Police arrested several TRS workers at Nizamabad, Nalgonda and in Ranga Reddy as the activists tried to stop the screening of the film.
Raising ‘Jai Telangana’ slogans, the protesters tried set afire posters and cut-outs. As a result, some theaters cancelled the screening citing popular sentiment.
Tight security measures were made at theaters as the DGP, Mr R.R. Girish Kumar, had on Tuesday assured the High Court that police would provide protection at the theaters.
