The city police took 351 Telangana activists into preventive custody for unlawful assembly while they were participating in the bandh called by the Telangana Students Joint Action Committee (TSJAC) on Wednesday. TSJAC gave the call for early creation of Telangana in the wake of suicides by disillusioned students.Meanwhile, due to the bandh, common man was hit hard as the APSRTC suspended its city services fearing mob attacks. Activists took out rallies at several areas across the city, while several others began relay hunger strikes demanding separation of the state.
Dharnas and rallies were witnessed at several government colleges. Police took into preventive custody 100 students of the Secunderabad PG College and 38 students of the City College as they were proceeding towards Osmania University. Forty students of Saifabad PG College, who staged a dharna in front of Golconda Hotel, were taken into preventive custody.
About 100 students from Koti Women’s College staged a dharna in front of the college, while Nizam College students took out a rally. Advocates of City Civil Court boycotted the court and protested on the court premises while advocates of Nampally Criminal Court staged a dhrana.
