Jan 21, 2010 0
The city police took 351 Telangana activists into preventive custody for unlawful assembly while they were participating in the bandh called by the Telangana Students Joint Action Committee (TSJAC) on Wednesday. TSJAC gave the call for early creation of Telangana in the wake of suicides by disillusioned students.Meanwhile, due to the bandh, common man was hit hard as the APSRTC suspended its city services fearing mob attacks. Activists took out rallies at several areas across the city, while several others began relay hunger strikes demanding separation of the state.

Saraswati devotees fleeced

The Telangana bandh called by the JAC on Wednesday took a heavy toll on Aksharabhyasam, the ritual of auspicious beginning of learning for children, at the Basara Saraswati temple, on the occasion of Vasantha Panchami. Thousands of devotees from all parts of Andhra Pradesh and neighbouring states faced difficulties as the APSRTC stopped bus services to Basara from all parts of the state as a “precautionary reaction” to the bandh. Many passengers were stranded in bus stations in Secunderabad and Hyderabad since midnight on Tuesday.
