The revised guidelines for telecom operators in Jammu and Kashmir for issuing pre-paid and post-paid connections will see a stricter scrutiny of documents besides limiting a family’s ability to have multiple phones to just six. The Centre has asked the telecom operators to strictly adhere to the Telegraph Act, under which they will now have to disconnect services within two hours if the address or any other document supplied by the customer was not correct.

J&K: Ban lifted on pre-paid mobiles

Nearly two and a half months after imposing a ban on pre-paid mobile phones in Jammu and Kashmir, the Centre today lifted its order with immediate effect but put stringent conditions on operators for verification of customers.The decision to lift the ban was taken after the Centre finalised a "foolproof" plan to ensure proper verification of nearly 38 lakh cell phone subscribers in the state, official sources said today.
