Government has put all Air India planes operating in the country's neighbourhood on high security alert and directed the airlines to deploy sky marshals following intelligence inputs that Pakistan-based LeT and other terror groups were planning to hijack a flight. A directive has been issued to all Indian missions abroad to sensitise the staff of the airlines, official sources said.

While the United States successfully disabled Al Qaeda from Afghanistan in the aftermath of
9 /11; the terrorist organisation and its offshoots are rebuilding in Pakistan, Yemen and Africa, a top American intelligence official has said."While we disabled Al Qaeda's training and financing mechanisms in Afghanistan in the wake of the September 11 attacks, it is clear that Al Qaeda and its offshoots are rebuilding in Pakistan, Yemen, and the Horn of Africa," Robert S Mueller, Director Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), said yesterday.

One Al-Qaeda terrorist carrying a Pakistani passport was arrested on Tuesday after being kept in a week-long detention here, police said.Gulam Rasool Khan was picked up by police on Tuesday last week following his suspicious movement in the town.
