Prajarajyam president K Chiranjeevi said any further violence on film production units will force the industry to relocate to Chennai.
Speaking to the media after interacting with Union home minister P Chidambaram at his office in North Block, the PRP chief said he had apprised the home minister of the deteriorating law and order situation in the state and the widening rift among Telugu-speaking people based on regional lines. He said any further attack on film units would force film crews and the industry itself to migrate to Chennai.
He said the meeting was meaningful and hoped that the deliberations he had with the Union minister would help in restoring normalcy in the state. “I recalled the statement made by chief minister K Rosaiah regarding the migration of industries, including film production houses in the wake of the ongoing agitations and the huge revenue loss of more than Rs 100 crore each day to the state exchequer over the past few days,” the PRP chief observed.
He also urged Union home minister P Chidambaram to ensure that the current academic year of students was not affected by the ongoing agitations in the state. “We had a discussion in detail regarding the academic year of the students and the insecurity among people from non-Telangana regions,” he said after a 45-minute meeting with the home minister.
Meanwhile, Pradesh Congress Committee president D Srinivas came down heavily on the PRP president for raking up the issue of the Andhra Pradesh film industry shifting its operations to Chennai in the wake of attacks on film shooting crews and the ensuing violence on film sets.
The PCC chief said, “People owning film studios and other prime film-related infrastructure have told me that they were not going anywhere. All news about the film industry planning to shift to Chennai has been raked up by the PRP chief. Chiranjeevi does not even own a studio or film infrastructure in Hyderabad. How can he speak on behalf of the film industry?”
