APSRTC fares hiked, power tariff to follow

Jan 7, 2010

The cash-strapped Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation on Wednesday decided to hike RTC bus fares from midnight.
The increase in fares would be to the extent of 46 paise per km for ordinary buses, 54 paise per km for Express buses, 60 paise per km for deluxe buses, 70 paise for super luxury, 70 paise for Meghdoot non-AC, 85 paise for Meghdoot AC and Rs 1.25 paise per km for Volvo buses.

As far as city buses are concerned, the hike would be Rs 5 up to 4 kms and Rs 7 up to 10 kms. For express services, it will be Rs 2 over ordinary fare. It is the first time that APSRTC is hiking the fares without seeking state government approval.

The state government has also proposed to hike the power tariff for industrial, domestic and railways sectors. According to the proposal which Transco would submit to the Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Authority soon, the increase would be 50 paise per unit in the domestic sector if the power consumption is more than 300 units per month.
