Rape cases: Goa Commission for Women to seek probe details
In the backdrop of rising incidence of sexual abuse against foreigners, Goa State Commission for Women (GSCW) has decided to seek details of investigations of all such cases from the Police Department.
"I will ask police give details related to cases of sexual abuse against foreigners. We need to figure out what exactly goes wrong while probing such incidents," GSCW Chairman, Elzida Sapeco, told reporters this morning.
Sapeco said strong measures should be taken to make sure that state's image is not spoilt further.
After the rape on 25-year-old Russian girl last month, a nine-year-old girl, holidaying with her mother at state's Arambol beach was raped on Republic Day evening.
Sapeco, who took over as the Chairperson of GSCW this week itself, said she will seek the details of this case too.
"This will be my first task," she said.
Goa police have already identified the accused as one Aman Bharadwaj from Uttar Pradesh, who is still at large.
Deputy Inspector General of Police, Ravindra Yadav, confirming the identity of the accused on Thursday had also declared prize of Rs 20,000 for the person who helps to track the accused.
Goa, which receives around 40,000 tourists, was rocked with the rape on 25-year-old girl by a local political on December 1 last year.
In another instance, two Russian girls had to hide in forest for almost four hours on December 26 after a taxi driver chased them demanding sex.
