Though the main purpose of the meet is to review the functioning of the higher education department, the demand to postpone the exams made by the Telangana JAC is likely to hog the limelight.
Three ministers from the Telangana region had requested the Chief Minister to postpone the exams at least by two weeks.
The minister for higher education, Mr D. Sridhar Babu, along with two of his Cabinet colleagues, Mr Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and Mr Jupally Krishna Rao, met Mr Rosaiah on Tuesday and requested him to postpone the exams as students lost classes due to Telangana agitations.
However, the minister for secondary education, Mr D. Manikya Vara Prasada Rao, was against postponement. “Postponing exams will have an adverse impact on the entire process. We have to alter the process which affects the entire machinery engaged in pre-examination work,” Mr Rao said.
Officials of the Board of Intermediate Education said they have already completed the bar-coding and packaging of over 1.5 crore OMR answer sheets.
