Fed up with the frequent shutdowns in the last 50 days, citizens went about their business on Thursday, rejecting the “extended” bandh called by the Telangana JAC. The city and parts of Telangana witnessed as many as 10 bandhs since November 30, 2009, and it has become evident that the patience of the common man is wearing thin.
There was poor response to the bandh call on Thursday. Though shops and business establishments remained closed in the morning, they opened later in the day. Even the APSRTC, which had been at the receiving end of bandh-related violence, operated its services after people protested. “The corporation incurs a loss of Rs 3 crore per day in the city if we stop operations,” said the executive director, Mr Narayana Swamy. RTC bore the brunt with 30 of its buses being damaged on Thursday.
