Hockey players handed their payments

As promised after their shocking revolt, 22 Indian hockey players and support staff, including coaches, were on Monday handed their payments adding up to Rs one crore by IOA President Suresh Kalmadi at the World Cup preparatory camp in Pune.

The cheques with varying individual payments were distributed by the Indian Olympic Association chief, who was accompanied by Hockey India adviser Anupam Gulati.

Hockey players to get Rs 1 cr, will rejoin camp

The six-day strike by the Indian men's hockey team over financial dues ended on Wednesday with the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) assuring the players an immediate payment of Rs 1 crore made available by sponsors Sahara.

IOA chief Suresh Kalmadi said the players had agreed to rejoin the World Cup practice camp from Thursday. "A list of players is being drawn up for the payment (of Rs 1 crore)," said Kalmadi, who met the players to resolve the crisis.
