9 points to be considered before Telangana

Feb 1, 2010
While setting up the Rosaiah committee on Telangana last year, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy had told the Assembly on February 12, 2009, that “before taking a decision (on Telangana statehood), many of the issues need to be resolved as serious concerns have been raised by the stake-holders.”
1. To identify the economic issues that propel Telangana sentiment and to examine the facts relating to employment, exploitation of resources, etc.
2. To examine the concerns of minorities in the proposed Telangana set-up.
3. To examine the status of Hyderabad Metropolitan Area taking into consideration the migrant population.
4. To examine the concerns of the migrant population in the rest of Telangana (excluding Hyderabad).
5. To examine issues relating to Maoist and terrorist activities in the context of proposed Telangana set-up.
6. To work out the modalities of sharing of river waters vis-a-vis the existing situation.
7. Infrastructure and service facilities in the state capital — both state and Central governments-relocation and consequent issues.
8. To examine issues pertaining to existing demands for separate states by other regions of the state.
9. To work out a strategy for the overall and harmonious development of all regions in the event of formation of Telangana state.
Meanwhile, the Lok Sabha Speaker, Ms Meira Kumar, on Sunday said she is yet to decide on the resignation of three MPs from Andhra Pradesh — Mr Lagadapati Rajagopal (Congress), the TRS chief, Mr K. Chandrasekhar Rao, and the TRS party MP, Ms Vijayashanti — who put in their papers over the Telangana issue.
