States unite to tackle Maoists

Senior level police officials, including superintendents of police and deputy superintendents of police from Orissa, Chattisgarh and West Bengal, are now undergoing training at the Greyhounds Academy at Premavatipet on the outskirts of the city.

Around 49 deputy superintendents of police and five IPS officials from the neighbouring states are being trained at the academy to take up the combined fight against the Naxals.
Greyhounds, the elite anti-Naxal force was seen as a role model in the country in guerrilla warfare. The Governor, Mr E.S.L. Narasimhan, on Tuesday, appreciated the efforts of Greyhounds in the fight against left-wing extremism while addressing the Republic Day parade. An official of Greyhounds said, “The compliments received from the head of state is a big boost to the elite force. Our men received nine gallantry awards.”
The state is facing insurgency from the neighbouring Chattisgarh and Orissa. “To train the neighbouring police is very vital for the success of the state police in the fight against the Maoists,” said the Greyhounds official. Greyhounds is transferring it’s jungle warfare expertise to other state police forces. “All the expenses for the training are borne by them,” said the official. Greyhounds is led by the inspector general of police, Mr Anjani Kumar.
