PRP decries TDP statement

Taking exception to the reported statement of State TDP general secretary B. Uma Maheswara Rao at the TDP meeting on Wednesday that the Praja Rajyam Party would vanish by the elections to Assembly in 2014, Meesala Geetha, PRP district convenor, told a press conference on Thursday that the statement was uncalled for and suggested that TDP leaders concentrate on people’s welfare and on how to strengthen party.

The TDP that won all the 12 Assembly and two Lok Sabha seats in the district in 1994, restricted itself to eight Assembly and one LS seat in 1999, four Assembly seats in 2004 and two in 2009 elections.

The party gradually had lost ground to Congress in all the constituencies and blaming PRP for its debacle in 2009 was not correct, she asserted.

Stating that PRP president Chiranjeevi was the first to speak in support of united Andhra Pradesh, Ms. Geetha demanded that the TDP make their strategy public. Kalla Gowri Shankar, PRP leader, was present.

Lok Satta Party has asked Ministers Botcha Satyanarayana, In-charge Minister for East Godavari district, P. Subhaschandra Bose and Viswa Roop to resign owning moral responsibility for the hooch tragedy that claimed 13 lives and hospitalized over 200 people.

Addressing a press conference on Thursday, party State vice-president B.A. Babji blamed the government for the tragedy and said that because of steep hike in prices of liquor the poor people had been consuming spurious liquor.

Party Mahila Satta convenor I. Anata Lakshmi said that mushrooming of belt shops with the active support of local political leaders was ruining poor families.
