The Congress core committee, which met in New Delhi on Friday, decided to continue the dialogue process initiated on January 5 by the home minister, Mr P, Chidambaram. The date for second round of talks would be announced in a week. But, the core committee chaired by the Congress president, Mrs Sonia Gandhi, expressed concern over suicides in the name of Telangana and united state and asked the party leadership in the state to take steps to pacify the situation.
The committee decided to hold the next round of talks only when peace is maintained in the state. The state PCC chief, Mr D Srinivas, after meeting Mrs Sonia Gandhi. said the Centre will take a decision soon on the issue.
After meeting the union defence minister, Mr A.K. Antony, the MP from Nizamabad, Mr Madhu Yashki Goud, said, “We asked him not to go by police and administration reports which are by and large not close to the ground reality. We requested the minster to order an independent report from Central agencies to understand the actual situation in Telangana.”
