In the first press conference post the player auction for the third season of the extravagant Indian Premier League, Shilpa Shetty, co-owner of the Rajasthan Royals, has requested the people of India and Pakistan to act maturely. Her comment came in the wake of the controversies that have been cropping up after the Pakistani players were snubbed and ignored in the player auction for IPL 3. She said, "I request people in India and Pakistan to act maturely. Things have been taken out of proportion."
Shilpa added, "It was not a contrived attempt. We lost out on the best players. We don't owe any explanation anyway." Lalit Modi, the IPL Commissioner, seconded Shilpa's words.
He went on to say that he would act constructive in retaliation to his effigies burnt in Pakistan. Relating to the pollution caused by the burning of his dummy, he said, "For every effigy burnt I will go and plant 200 trees."
He also said that there was no conspiracy against Pakistan players. "The media is biased. That is the reason of such a furore."
"You've written enough about this. You can continue writing. This is not a Pakistan related presser. I want to clarify. We don't owe an explanation. We request people in Pakistan and India to respond maturely. I'm not answering any Pakistan related question. This is not a Pakistan forum," he retorted.
Deviating from the serious discussions, Lalit Modi, the IPL Commissioner declared that the IPL awards would be given out on April 23, 2010. Modi explained, "The IPL awards are only for this year and will be based on the 56 league games."
He also guaranteed total entertainment for the viewers. He said, "We will give every type of viewer something to watch. Fashion, Bollywood and Cricket will all be merged."
"Our partnership with Colors takes the IPL cricketainment quotient into an all new orbit. I have always maintained that the IPL is a cricketing carnival like no other and with this unique partnership that we have entered on behalf of our franchisees; we are delivering on our promise to extend the IPL franchise beyond cricket, beyond the IPL season and quite frankly beyond imagination. The revenue of the tie-up will go to the franchisees," he explained.
Rajesh Kamat, CEO, Colors, further added, "This partnership is about coming together of two of the biggest entertainment brands in their respective domains, IPL and Colors - brands that have changed the landscape of Cricket and entertainment respectively over the last 2 years."
Talking about the merger with Colors, Kings XI Punjab XI co-owner Preity Zinta said, "Colors will air after match parties, events, fashion shows, all connected with IPL."
