His last collection of two novellas - Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters and Seymour: An Introduction - was published in 1963.
His other books are Nine Stories (1953) and Franny and Zooey (1961). None of his later works measured up to the success and popularity of The Catcher in the Rye, whose principal character Holden Caulfield became an icon for several and continuing generations of readers.
