Expressing whole-hearted support to IPL-III matches in Hyderabad, the all party Telangana Joint Action Committee on Wednesday asked the Hyderabad Cricket Association to reconsider the decision to shift the inaugural match of the tournament to Mumbai even as another pro-Telangana group said it would disrupt the matches.
"We request you to reconsider your decision and reschedule the inaugural match back to Hyderabad and proudly showcase a trouble-free IPL season. We extend our whole-hearted support to the same," the JAC Convenor, Mr C. Kodandaram, said in a letter to the President of HCA.
A copy of the letter was sent to the Union Home Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram.
Mr Kodandaram said that the sports-loving people of Hyderabad were shocked over the shifting of the inaugural match and opening ceremony from Hyderabad to Mumbai.
The Telangana JAC is not against sports and is ready to support HCA, if required, to host additional matches in Hyderabad, he said.
Mr Kodandaram as well as TRS have already clarified earlier that they will support the organisers of IPL to host the prestigious tournament in Hyderabad.
Members of the Telangana Research Scholars Forum have, however, threatened to disturb IPL matches in Hyderabad on the ground that the Telangana youth are not encouraged in cricket and the competition would divert attention from the movement for a separate state.
