A man died on Saturday morning in Mumbai after being run over by a drunken woman, who rammed her Honda CRV into a police jeep and two motorcycles.
The accident took place late on Friday night when the woman, in an inebriated state, drove her Honda CRV into a group of policemen, two motorcycles and a taxi injuring four constables, a sub-inspector and a civilian.Motorcycle rider Afzal Kanojia, who sustained grievous injuries, later died at the hospital.
"A black coloured car was travelling from Opera House to Churchgate. It hit a taxi under the bridge. Five to six people including an officer and some constables were injured. They are being treated in Bombay Hospital. The lady is in custody," said Traffic Police ACP Anil Takalkar.
The policemen were stationed at Maharishi Karve Road in Marine Lines in South Mumbai to check drunken driving when the incident took place.
The injured are being treated at the Bombay and GT hospitals. The 27-year-old driver has been arrested and taken for a medical examination.
