Anti-Naxal operation

Jan 28, 2010
The Centre said anti-Naxal operations will continue till the extremists agree to talks, adding it has convened a meeting of Chief Ministers of four Naxal affected states in Kolkata next month to fine tune the joint operations.

A Home Ministry spokesperson said the meeting, scheduled for February 9 is to fine tune coordination for the inter-state joint operation against the left-wing extremism.
It would be attended by Chief Ministers of Jharkhand, Orissa, West Bengal and Bihar.
Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram had on Thursday, held a meeting with Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Soren here and later said anti-Naxal operations would stop only if the left-wing extremists abjure violence and decide to come to the negotiation table.
Mr. Soren had earlier said his government was on board with the Centre over the multi-State coordinated offensive against the Naxals, which will see over 60,000 paramilitary personnel in action besides the state police.
On January 22, Mr. Chidamabaram held a meeting in Raipur attended by Chhattisgarh C.M. Raman Singh, the chief secretary and director general of police of Jharkhand, representatives from Orissa and the chiefs of Border Security Force (BSF) and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) for the same.
